The National Council for Child & Youth Welfare was established in 1954 by the late Sir Albert Peiris, Lady Evelyn De Soyza, Dr. L.O. Abeyratne, Dr. Mary Ratnam and Mrs. Sita Seneviratne. Incorporated in 1960 as a Government approved charitable organization, the National Council is administered by a Central Board & Trustees.

The Council’s eight homes provide Shelter, Care, Education and Training for nearly 300 children and youth deprived of the very basics of life. They are admitted to homes by the Department of Social Services and Department of Probation and Child Care Services. These Children are poor, destitute, abandoned and some are mentally impaired. These homes are managed by a team of experienced staff under the guidance of the Central Board of NCCYW.
